Hello, my name is Roshni Despot. I live here in New York City, and I came from Trinidad and Tobago with my three children and my husband. The first few days living in New York was very difficult. We decided that we would start looking for a job to help out. We decided to find a job to work and help ourselves and the three children. Having them all here was very hard and we were doing good as time passed by. New York City, America as a whole, has given us so much. Our kids did very good for themselves. We are very proud to be here in the US, very grateful. There was lots of traffic, and lots of cars, trucks and buses. A lot to see and a lot to take in. It’s totally different from where we came from, but beautiful. We were loving ourselves so much. It was beautiful but a challenge. Those first couple of days, people cooked all the time, I don’t think there was as much time to prepare food like back home, but we had lots of pizza and Chinese food, and in between we tried to make home food, like curry chicken, rice, and other things. But then we got used to American dishes. My kids love American food. I miss our family in Trinidad, we have so much family, and our home that we had to leave behind. It was very, very hard but we had to leave. I think the kids did very good for themselves. They have accomplished a lot.
