TRANSCRIPT

My name is Eugene David. I arrived to the United States in the year 1985.

How old were you then?

I was ten years old.

Before I came to the United States, I lived in Grenada, Carriacou, West Indies.

When I first came to the United States, I stayed in Brooklyn, New York.

Coming to the United States was the decision of my parents at the time. We traveled by airplane, and the trip was nice, right, enjoyable.

When we arrived to the United States, my sister met us at the airport. Coming in on the plane and seeing all the lights below, it was very bright and just really exciting to see all those lights. I could tell, like...very big, coming from such a small island.

On the first day we came, we went to the park and walked around the neighborhood just to get acquainted with the area. When we first got here we stayed at my sister’s, and we...our first meal that we tried was pizza. Didn’t like it too much, but I got used to the taste now.

What was one thing that you learned, being an immigrant in the United States?

Being an immigrant in the United States, you have a lot of opportunities that’s available to you, you just have to work and be...and have perseverance. You know, times will be challenging and difficult, but you just have to believe that you can do it and you can get through it, and it’s worth it in the end.
