DEPARTED FROM
Michoacan, Mexico

ARRIVED IN
Chicago, Illinois

YEAR
1974

He came to America to help his family out in Mexico. He and his older brother came by themselves to find jobs so they could send the money they earned back to their mother so she could support their younger siblings.

He remembers how hard it was to find work, as he didn't speak an ounce of English. He and his brother had difficulty finding jobs, and since they didn't have jobs, they couldn't support their family, let alone themselves.

Luckily, he and his brother found jobs and were able to start working. They made sure to only use enough money to support themselves, so they could send the rest of the money back to their family.

Chicago became a place of peace for both of them as it had a growing Hispanic community. He was able to communicate with others. After a few years, he and his brother were each able to start their own landscaping business and bring their family over.
