The very first time I arrived in the U.S., my cousin and I had to spend a night in NYC due to a layover. We didn’t really get to see the city though. The next day we arrived in Syracuse and my uncle picked us up from the airport. It was not what I expected. Before I came over, I was taught that people in the U.S. were very racist and most often unkind to immigrants, especially the police. When I got it wasn’t like that at all. Everyone that I met was very friendly and kind. My uncle picked us up and showed us around Syracuse. The buildings down town were all very different from what I had seen before, and the mall was bigger than anything that I had seen! We went shopping and had food at a place in the mall. I had never had Cheesecake Factory before that, it was all very rich. Even there everyone was very friendly to us. After that we went to my uncle’s house and got settled in. His neighbor helped us to move our things in from the airport. Once we unpacked a bit, my uncle showed us around the house a bit more to get us familiar with it and how to do some operate and fix things if he was not there. He showed us around Lemoyne and introduced us to some people around the campus that would help us. He also showed us the den where I work now. My first time here was good, a lot better than I had thought.
