My name is Jack. I’m 21 years old, and I’m studying Computer Engineering. I’m from China, Guangzhou. I came to U.S. 2012. It was after I graduated middle school.
What happened on my First Day was I remember getting off the plane at LAX and my mom’s friend came to pick us up. We didn't find a place to stay yet. So we stayed at a hotel. And I remember the drive from LAX to San Jose or playing games such as like GTA or like stuffs like that. It met my expectation but like I was pretty excited about the clean air because back in China I had really bad allergies because of the pollution.
I remember that we ordered pizza from Pizza Hut and I remember like noticing how greasy it was and how bad it tasted because compared to Pizza Hut in China it's like a two different companies.
And I was really surprised by how scattered things are. For example, back in China I could go downstairs and I could get anything I want, such as groceries or like haircuts, stuffs like that. But like here in the U.S., you have to drive at least couple of miles just to get those services. And it was really a surprise for me as to how bad the infrastructure was. For example, like the roads and public transportations. Maybe it's because like the country was really reliant on cars as the main mode of transportation.
