TRANSCRIPT

So, I arrived in New York City with my parents, and I was going to start college. They came with me to drop me off. It was a pleasant experience, not at all traumatic or surprising. I was surprised by Bed Bath and Beyond; I had never been inside such a big store. It was really nice because we had a close family friend who had moved from Bangkok to New York a few years ago, and they had a beautiful home that we were able to stay at. My parents were here for about a week, and we spent that time with that family. Having them there really made a difference for us. They provided some consistency so it wasn’t too new. They showed me all the sights of New York. They introduced me to America, and the subway system, they showed me how to buy a subway ticket and all of those things. I think I didn’t experience much culture shock because I went to an American school at Bangkok, and was accustomed to American food, culture, and slang. It felt natural to come from a big city to another.
