TRANSCRIPT

What was your first day in the U.S. like?

I had moved here along with my wife and two sons after a long 24 journey. I was tired but the excitement to see my brother and his wife at the airport who had come to pick us up at the airport made up for the exhaustion. I will never forget the journey from the airport to my brother's house as all four of us just could not stop looking outside the car windows at this totally new and different world. Every single thing amazed us: the streets, the ocean, the spread-out shops and restaurants, the crossroads etc. Upon reaching his home, we had some delicious lunch prepared by my sister-in-law. She had made Gujarati food in order to not totally shock us due to all the change that we had already seen. After lunch when everything started to calm down, we all sat in the living room and talked about the journey and other stuff. As I sat there in the living room of my brother's huge house on the shore of the ocean, I could not stop dreaming of what America will bring to me because my brother had started out just like me 30 years ago as a doctor in this new country. I did not feel like sitting around for long at my brother's place although he insisted because I wanted to make money and do something great. After sitting there for some time when evening came we all went to the park so that we could all get some fresh air and the children could play. We had some Mexican food for dinner later and then came back home.
